CHEF and proprietor Ivan Scarpuzza’s home, the seaside town of Capo D’orlando in Sicily, inspires the menu at Bella Napoli Ristorante Pizzeria.
It is an extensive menu, with more than 30 varieties of pizzas and pastas, meat, poultry and fish dishes, salads and blackboard specials.
The atmosphere is warm and relaxed, with framed pictures of Capo D’orlando and Sicily adorning the walls.
Along with the menu, the servings are also generous.
The pizzas are more than enough for one person, and the Siciliana with mozzarella, roasted capsicum, Italian sausage, eggplant, olives and anchovies ($18.50) is a winner.
One of the daily specials, lamb shanks in a mushroom and onion sauce with roast potatoes ($32.50), is a huge serving of melt-in-your-mouth meat in a tasty, rustic sauce.
When Ivan took over the restaurant, he created a large menu with plenty of choice and lowered the prices.
Regulars who ate at Bella Napoli before Ivan came on board have told him they are thrilled and continue to come back.
One of the favourites is chicken breast filled with spinach and ricotta cheese, wrapped in bacon, with sun-dried tomato and spring onion in a creamy sauce ($24.50).
“The idea was to create a large variety of good food at affordable prices. I want people to be able to eat here once or twice a week, rather than once a month,” Ivan said.
Specials are changing daily.
“Tomorrow I have baby goat as that’s what the customers have asked for,” Ivan said.
