THINK of the word summer and what is the first thing that comes to your mind?
Is it the beach, the stinking hot weather, sitting inside with the air-conditioner cranked up or daylight savings?
For me, one of the first things I think of is summer music festivals and outdoor concerts, and although the warm weather is still a couple of months away, the press releases for events we can look forward to this year are already starting to arrive in my inbox.
First up this year was the teaser for the 2008/09 season of A Day on the Green, promising to bring a stellar line-up of national and international acts – and the announcement of the first concert on November 15 did not disappoint, with both John Mellencamp and Sheryl Crow taking to the stage at Sandalford Winery.
So popular was the announcement that a second show has already been announced – it looks to be one show not to be missed.
Next up on my radar for the summer is Escape to the Park, which is bringing fantastic Australian acts the Cruel Sea, Ben Lee, Bob Evans, Kate Miller-Heidke and Abbe May to Kings Park on November 29.
I caught the Cruel Sea earlier this year when they reunited for the West Coast Blues ‘n’ Roots Festival, and if their set at that event was anything to go by, they will make Escape to the Park another night not to miss.
Stay tuned to Jam Session for more festival news as it is announced, and start putting away your spare change, as the announcements for summer have only just begun.
