Men find refuge while women shop

WHY is it that the best ideas always present themselves post-alcohol?

Last Friday, on an impromptu drinking session, my workmates and I decided that there should be somewhere for spouses to go when they’re not out with you or drinking with their own mates.

I realise that my workplace is distinctly uncommon. Come Friday night around 6pm when most sensible people are looking for a way to ditch their work mates and head home for the weekend, we are looking for an excuse to stay out with ours. It got me thinking, why hadn’t anyone thought of the idea of a spouse creche before?

So I looked further into it, and it turned out that some one had.

A frankly marvellous man by the name of Andreas Stadlbauer in Vienna came up with the idea of a so-called ‘Maennerhort’ or ‘men’s creche’ last year.

He launched the creche in the midst of the festive shopping frenzy and he got the right sponsors to draw in the man crowd – German luxury sports car manufacturer Porsche, Playboy magazine and Nintendo.

Find me a bloke who wouldn’t want to spend time there?

Question: “Darling do you want to come shopping with me? Or would you rather go to the Maennerhort, look at lad’s mags, muck about with sports cars and play computer games?”

It’s a no brainer really.

But all jokes aside, imagine the bliss of the festive season and the January sales if this neat little invention existed in Australia?

Women love to shop. And yes, we absolutely think we are saving money if we spend $40 on something we wouldn’t have bought anyway, but it’s on sale.

Just like any woman worth her shopping salt I have hundreds of clothes, but good golly Miss Molly I’ve never looked as good as I do in this pair of 50 per cent-offs.

Don’t ask me why, but find me a woman who hasn’t vowed to live on baked beans for a week just so she could spend her whole week’s budget on a top she will look fabulous in on Friday night. It’s girl logic. You’ll never understand that, just like we never understand why 55 beers is never enough when you’re on a night out with your mates.

Anyway, Stadlbauer’s creche proved such a success – around 1500 men found refuge there from their shopaholic better halves – that he has decided to repeat the venture again this year. I don’t know, but I have a feeling that if you got Crown Lager, Elle Macpherson and the AFL on board for an Aussie creche we might never see our men folk again.

Ah well, you win some you lose some eh?

A shopping centre is a place where you can find everything you want ... except your wife ... when your back hurts and you wanna go home!

I'm not a huge shopper either. I think unisex adult creche would be great!

I'd pass on the mini bar, but a nice selection of chocolates and girly mags will do me!

Not all women want to trudge around a shop............I think it would be great for stores to have mini-bars for women who get stuck with annoying friends that try on outfits that look completely disgusting on them!

Id take the drink over an annoying shopping trip with a neurotic female anyday of the week!
