Local history on the move

HISTORIC Wanneroo School House has moved from Perry’s Paddock in Ocean Reef Road, Woodvale, to Neville Park in Wanneroo.

The house, without its roof, was moved along Wanneroo Road and Scenic Drive to its new location on Sunday.

It is now behind Buckingham House.

“This is a very appropriate location for the house considering that former local farmer John Buckingham donated five acres of land near what is today the junction of Wanneroo and Dundebar roads for the construction of the school,” Mayor Jon Kelly said.

Mr Buckingham also gave £5 towards the building costs of the school, which opened on January 30, 1899 and was used until a new school was built across the road in 1959.
