THE rare two-faced kitten born in Midvale on Wednesday, which captured the world's attention, has died.
The kitten, which was being kept at its owner's home with its mother and two siblings, died late yesterday after getting fluid in its lungs.
Our story and picture about the mutant moggy made international and national headlines.
Major news websites across the world, television news stations and international newspapers picked up the story and picture by photographer Matthew Poon about the cute little creature that first appeared on inmycommunity.com.au.
It has created interest in the UK, Poland, Sweden, the US, Thailand, Germany and New Zealand.
The kitten ate out of just one mouth because of a cleft palate but both mouths meowed simultaneously.
Most readers from inmycommunity.com.au labelled the unique moggy “adorable” and “cute” with some expressing concern about the quality of the kitten’s life.
Its Mundaring owner planned to keep the kitten and is thinking of calling it either Mr Men or Quasi Modo.
But names such as Janus, after the two-faced Greek god, and Kitu, for a kitten in two, seemed to sit better with website readers. Ditto has also been a popular suggestion. Click here to read our story
