THE rare two-faced kitten born in Midvale on Wednesday, which captured the world's attention, has died.

The kitten, which was being kept at its owner's home with its mother and two siblings, died late yesterday after getting fluid in its lungs.

Our story and picture about the mutant moggy made international and national headlines.

Major news websites across the world, television news stations and international newspapers picked up the story and picture by photographer Matthew Poon about the cute little creature that first appeared on inmycommunity.com.au.

It has created interest in the UK, Poland, Sweden, the US, Thailand, Germany and New Zealand.

The kitten ate out of just one mouth because of a cleft palate but both mouths meowed simultaneously.

Most readers from inmycommunity.com.au labelled the unique moggy “adorable” and “cute” with some expressing concern about the quality of the kitten’s life.

Its Mundaring owner planned to keep the kitten and is thinking of calling it either Mr Men or Quasi Modo.

But names such as Janus, after the two-faced Greek god, and Kitu, for a kitten in two, seemed to sit better with website readers. Ditto has also been a popular suggestion.

What pain and suffering are you fools talking about? the cat meowed and purred, it wasnt shrieking or screaming? what is wrong with you people? why do you have to put everyone "out of it's misery" when it doesnt look normal? you kinds assume that because something is different, it suffers. seriously, get the head out of the rectum.

You are obviously a cat hater. Cat poo disolves, dog poo doesnt. Cats are free angels that spread love and have more than one owner. They spread their love through the neighbourhood. Are you one of those cruel people who harms cats ? It sounds like it to me WHY ? CATS know when they are not welcome. Just shoo them away rather than burn them in the barbecue or be cruel. God is watching!

To Jody of North Perth. 23/11/2008 How I agree with all you have said, puppies & kittens sold in pet shops need to be baned. They are bred mainly over east and orders put in for them, I often wonder about the health of the mothers of these animals, what happens to them when they have run out of steam to give birth anymore. Animals are banned in pet shops in UK, lets do the same here. There is a Rainbow Bridge, between Earth and Heaven where I believe all loved and unloved animals go. As a qualified Counsellour and a registered nurse I run a breavement group for owners who have lost a compainion animal. A compainion animal is a member of a family and as such deserves the best care, love, and shelter we can give them. Animals give us Unconditional Love which is a Gift rarely gien by humans. Please do not go out this Christmas and buy a "Cute"puppy or kitten", from your local pet shop, they are impulse buying and often "A Flash in the pan"

i just love it when i get on my hands and knees in the garden and dig a hole and move the soil with my hands to bed a new plant in, and i stick my hand in a cat poo, why do all the cats in the nieghbourhood want to come and poo in my garden. owners should make sure their cats use a litter tray in their own houses. its your bloody cat so the cat's poos belong to you. pity a deformed cat wasn't born without a bum then us long suffering gardeners wouldn't have to put up with kilos of cat poo every year.

I have stopped crying since I heard of poor Kitty's passing over to the other side.

Does anyone know when and where the funeral will be, as I would like to send a floral wreath in the shape of a giant mouse ?

Also if anyone knows where kitty is laying in rest I would like to attend to pay my last respects ?

RIP Kitty your life was short, but you brought hope to millions as your fame spread around the world.

Norm Normal -

I owned a 'deformed' dog for 11 wonderful years. The breeder wanted him destroyed at birth, so not to tarnish her reputation. One leg was deformed and couldn't be used. We had him de sexed in case it was a deformity that could be passed on. He was the best dog, and he lived a full and happy life. I would not have traded him in for any other dog in the world.

Dont be so quick to critisize.

Although it is unfortunate to hear of the passing of this miraculous creature, perhaps all the people around the world who think it is sad to see the death of this one animal should give a thought to the thousands of cats who are put down each year due to them not being able to find homes. Last year in the Perth Metro area alone over 15,000 perfectly healthy and loveable cats were put down because of the cat over-population problem we have.

Please, help prevent this atrocity from continuing by desexing your cat and supporting the wonderful work of groups giving homes to the homeless cats such as RSPCA and Cat Haven. If you want to add a cat to your family, adopt one from these orginisations instead of from a pet shop, who pay breeders to add to the population problem.

The same applies to dogs, for more information visit www.wherepuppiescomefrom.com.

People of Perth I beg of you, please help prevent more beautiful animals dieing needlessly.

Thank goodness it has at last died of its own accord, at least its death will now put an end to this media circus of a freak show. It would have been far more humane to have put the thing out of its misery in the first place by gasing/euthanasia.

To all those that think it was cute and want one, no doubt the owners will encourage another mating so that the freak two headed gene surfaces again in some future litter.

I still maintain that all those that thought it was "cute" should have their brains looked at, it was not "cute" it was CRUEL to keep it alive in the first place, and those that cried "cute cute" were the cruelest of the lot, as if it weren't for their encouragement it would have never lived for the sole purpose of becoming a freak show.

PS when I next see a mother pushing a baby with two heads in Forest Place I shall go up to her and say Oh how cute, its just lovely, I wana pick it up and kiss it. Give me a break......

It's really upsetting but maybe it would have been the better path for the little one as it would've had a tough life with the press and all-it wouldn't have had any peace. But now it rests in peace...

I read with a great sadness the death of this small creature.Sometimes it is natures way of correcting its mistake.Sad,but maybe for the best in the long term.I hope there is a cat god and it is looking after this little animals spirit. And i feel to for the owners of the two headed moggy. Also I think the owner should feel priviliged for having had such a rare and beautiful animal.Even if it was only for a short time. The cat man--from cheshire !
