SKIPPERS of boats accompanying Rottnest Channel Swim competitors must watch out for weather changes as up to 800 vessels sail with the annual swim from Cottesloe to the island this Saturday.
Senior Sergeant Greg Trew said the weather patterns indicated strong easterlies in the morning, followed by a mid-afternoon seabreeze.
“The south-westerly may come in when those swimmers left in the water are at their weakest and in previous races that’s when small boats get swamped,” Sen-Sgt Trew said.
He said no vessel should reverse to pick up a swimmer.
